ZECHA expands its site in Königsbach-Stein
How can complex machining tasks be solved holistically today? With the expansion of its site in Königsbach-Stein through the ZECHA Innovation Center, ZECHA provides a clear answer. Located opposite the headquarters, the comprehensively modernized building brings together key future-oriented areas such as research and development, application engineering and product management, as well as a modern multimedia training room for knowledge transfer and exchange, under one roof. In doing so, ZECHA creates ideal conditions for developing holistic manufacturing solutions while fostering close dialogue with customers, partners and employees.
More than 60 years ago, Erwin Zecha laid the foundation for today’s company in Königsbach-Stein. Having grown out of the Pforzheim watchmaking industry, ZECHA Hartmetall-Werkzeugfabrikation GmbH has developed into a partner and problem solver for precision tools in micro-machining around the globe. ZECHA stands for quality, high-end technology and innovative strength. With the new ZECHA Innovation Center at its headquarters in Königsbach-Stein, the precision tool manufacturer is opening the next chapter in its corporate development.
A clear answer to growing demands
“Today, our customers are rarely looking for just the perfect tool. They want application engineering, process know-how, seminars, digital formats – ideally available worldwide. That is exactly why we opened the ZECHA Innovation Center,” says Yannik Zecha, Managing Director at ZECHA Hartmetall-Werkzeugfabrikation GmbH. “It is a place where development, application, training and live communication come together, so that what we develop here in Stein reaches our partners around the world even faster and even better.”
With the new Innovation Center, ZECHA is expanding its spatial capacities and setting a clear course for the company’s future. The combination of development, testing environment and knowledge transfer makes it possible to work out tailor-made machining concepts efficiently. The focus is always on customer benefit.
The decisive factor behind the investment was, above all, the continuous growth of key company divisions. Research and development as well as application engineering in particular have grown in headcount. “We simply reached our limits in the main building. The teams have grown, the tasks have become more complex. It had been clear for some time that we needed more space,” explains Yannik Zecha. The opportunity to acquire the building directly across the street from the headquarters proved to be a stroke of luck. Spatial proximity plays a decisive role for ZECHA, as it keeps the close exchange between all departments quick and easy.
At the same time, the investment underscores the company’s clear commitment to its location. Despite its international orientation, ZECHA deliberately remains rooted in Königsbach-Stein. “For us, it was always clear that we would stay here. It is a conscious commitment to the region and, at the same time, the basis for continuing to support our customers closely and in a spirit of partnership,” says Yannik Zecha.
Close collaboration as the key to coordinated machining solutions
The new Innovation Center is now home to research and development, application engineering and product management. These areas have always worked closely together at ZECHA. Bringing them together in one place makes this exchange even more intensive and efficient.
Application engineering is in direct contact with customers through the field sales force and brings their requirements, challenges and problems into the company. In close coordination with development, this gives rise to new tool concepts, adapted geometries or complete process solutions. Product management ensures that these solutions are systematically refined and strategically positioned in the market. Spatial proximity speeds up coordination. Ideas can be discussed, tested and refined directly. “In the end, it is always about finding the best solution for the customer together. That is exactly why close collaboration is crucial,” explains Yannik Zecha.
The heart of the ZECHA Innovation Center is the integrated test center. Here, new tools and machining strategies are tested and refined under real conditions. Modern milling machines make it possible to cover a wide variety of materials and applications – from classic materials to highly specialized ones such as graphite or ceramics. This involves both the performance of individual tools and the interaction of all process parameters. The Innovation Center thus becomes the hub for developing customer-specific solutions and forms the basis for implementing holistic turnkey concepts.
Holistic, turnkey machining solutions
Building on this, ZECHA is systematically expanding its offering and, with its turnkey solutions, putting the entire machining process at the center. Instead of individual tools, the focus is on complete manufacturing concepts tailored to the respective application. The service provides users with comprehensive support in implementing demanding milling tasks – from the first idea to the finished application. “We take a close look at the component, define the optimal strategy and design the tools and cutting data so that the customer ultimately achieves a reliable and economical result,” explains Yannik Zecha.
The range of services is modular, extending from individual building blocks to a complete process solution. The first stage is component production in the sense of proof-of-concept testing. Based on a 3D model, ZECHA develops a suitable milling strategy, sources the material if required and produces sample parts under real conditions. Comprehensive measurement reports ensure that the results meet the required specifications. Customers thus receive a reliable assessment of the feasibility and quality of their application at an early stage.
Building on this, ZECHA offers the development of customer-specific tool solutions. Especially with complex geometries or demanding materials, standard tools often reach their limits. In close cooperation between application engineering and research and development, individually adapted tools are created that combine machining operations, reduce milling times and can significantly increase overall performance.
The third and most comprehensive stage is complete process development. Here, ZECHA takes over all the steps required to produce an optimal component – from working out the milling strategy and defining cutting data to possible adaptations of clamping devices or the production environment. This is complemented by detailed documentation, for example in the form of wear analyses or measurement reports. Finally, the application engineers accompany the implementation on site at the customer’s.
“Our aim is to offer customers a holistic solution from a single source. With our turnkey service, our customers can save valuable time and resources,” says Yannik Zecha.
Seminar room as a center for training and exchange
Alongside development and service, the Innovation Center also creates space for targeted knowledge transfer. At its center is the new seminar room, which will be used for training courses, workshops and events. “In the past, we simply did not have the capacity to hold seminars, such as our graphite seminar, here on site. We had to organize them externally. Now we can do that right here,” says Yannik Zecha.
The modern, well-equipped room can be used flexibly and supports a wide range of formats – from classic training courses and product presentations to interactive workshops. Thanks to its immediate proximity to the test center, theory and practice can be linked directly.
At the same time, ZECHA is extending its training offering into the digital world: thanks to integrated camera, lighting and streaming technology, events, live demonstrations and presentations can be broadcast worldwide directly from Königsbach-Stein. In addition to lectures, live footage from the test center and contributions from the experts are integrated. In cooperation with the livestream hub of long-standing partner AlienTools in Berlin, the content is professionally produced and delivered as interactive events.
The concept is complemented by AI-supported translations that enable knowledge transfer across languages. The result is a practical, interactive form of global customer communication – without geographical boundaries.
A strategic step into the future
With the ZECHA Innovation Center, the company combines its decades of expertise with the demands of an increasingly complex and globally networked manufacturing world. The expansion stands for a clear strategic orientation towards even more application expertise and holistic solutions. At the same time, the company remains true to its roots and consciously commits to its location and region as the basis for sustainable growth and close customer relationships.
